The Nikau Pendant Light by David Trubridge is made in New Zealand. The Nikau Pendant features a bamboo plywood shade that resembles the trunk of the native New Zealand palm tree of the same name. Its elongated body with a bulbous center section is formed by connecting bamboo components with a natural finish, using timber from sustainably managed plantations. This dynamic and visually complex design minimizes the material needed while maximizing its volume and effect. Kitset packaging helps minimize impact on the environment.
After sailing the Pacific with his family for several years, David Trubridge landed in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, in 1985 and stayed, beginning to design lighting in 2004. Inspired by the natural and cultural environment there, his airy, contemporary designs are constructed from sustainable wood, nontoxic oils and recyclable plastics. David Trubridge's environmentally responsible designs, like his Coral pendant, were an instigator of the international "raw sophistication" trend.
