The Nova Sea Side Chair from Mater reimagines the ocean’s plastic waste and fishing nets into a sustainable chair delivering elegance, versatility, and comfort. Designer ARDE comes at the chair with a process centered on driving sustainable change. ARDE considers the circular lifecycle of a design from raw material to reuse. Each piece is made using 2.75kg of recycled fishnet and plastics that have been cleaned, processed, and transformed into moldable pellets. While sustainability gives a second life to a material, ARDE feels that design needs to be beautiful to be truly timeless. With a refined, Scandinavian aesthetic, the plastic is neatly shaped and bent to caress the body. A steel framework outlines the design’s durability and visually light character. For space savings, the piece stacks neatly atop each other.
