Tord Boontje is a Dutch industrial product and lighting designer. After graduating from the Design Academy Eindhoven in The Netherlands in 1991 and earning a master’s degree from the Royal College of Art in London in 1994, Boontje founded his own design company, Studio Tord Boontje, in 1996 in South London. His works often express romanticism, yet they vary in design—some are whimsical and light-hearted, while others are technically innovative. Inspired by nature, storytelling, materials, decoration and technology, Boontje’s designs can be found in major museum collections such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Boontje is the recipient of several design awards, including the Dutch Designer of the Year in 2005, the Elle Décor Design Award in 2008 and the Red Dot Design Award in 2013.
