hollis+morris
Creating handmade lights, this Toronto based brand began as a series of garage explorations in design. hollis+morris got its name from an intersection in Halifax where the company originally started. Striving to create versatile, well crafted, and timeless pieces, all of their lighting fixtures are capable of adorning a range of space. From residential, commercial, and hospitality these minimalistic lighting fixtures can work just about anywhere. An Incredible StoryStarted by Mischa Couvrette, hollis+morris Lighting debuted in 2015 at ICFF. Couvrette’s inspiration to create hollis+morris came out of his knack for building, as well as his appreciation for design. Though he originally was studying for his bachelors in environmental sciences, Mischa Couvrette became influenced by a group of budding architects. Corvette’s passions shifted, and he soon found himself making furniture on the east coast, turning his new found passion into a reality. Then, after overhauling a boat with a buddy, Mischa went on a yearlong sailing trip to Guatemala. Which eventually led him to Toronto. Honest ProductionNot only has building hollis+morris revealed Courvette’s hidden creativity, but has also uncovered his extraordinary ambition. With a respect for natural and honest processes, hollis+morris strives to create thoughtful pieces meant to last for generations to come. Thus, their integration of solid wood and metal have become their trademark. By celebrating the strengths of both materials, their designs take on a minimalistic style in addition to a refined aesthetic. |
